The covered bridge in Jay, New York once again spans the East Branch of the Au Sable River.  It's a new bridge constructed with probably only 5% of the original structure, and with a different engineering technique I am told.  But engineering techniques go over my head.  I do know that it will be once again good for business in Jay and that the beauty and integrity of the upriver waterfalls and view will now be saved for many generations to come.

The bridge is raised using a unique hydraulic system on wheels, the bridge is raised
and then driven across the temporary bridge

The moving of the bridge was accomplished by 3G Construction (3 Generations), they've done many large jobs like this one around the country.  One in particular was the Cape Hatteras Light House.  On the right is one of the family members and chief engineer on this project being interviewed.

Sue and I went down and help to drum the bridge across the Au Sable.  In the back of the bridge is an engine that powers a motor on the back wheels.  Up front there is a steering mechanism that a fellow walks with right in front of the bridge.  That must be a nerve wracking job to have.  Below the bridge is back across the river.
