Indian Head lookout and the
Adirondack Mountain Reserve

THE AMR IS PRIVATE LAND, NOT PUBLIC.  New York State obtained right of way permission to hike in the AMR.  You can pass through the AMR, but you cannot camp there, swim there, leave the trails, or bring pets with you.   You will know when you leave or enter the AMR;  its boundaries are clearly marked by green signs with white lettering posted  at points of entrance/exit.

Once you leave Gill Brook and enter the quiet of the woods the trails begins a steep climb up the hill known as Indian Head.  Once on top you can head to the north to a lookout and this is what you see.
Giant Mountain on the right, Wolfjaws on the left.

Here's a picture of me with Giant in the background.

Walking south leads you to Indian Head lookout
with wonderful views of the AuSable Lakes.

I took the trail to the boathouse from Indian Head.  It's very steep and there are a
series of ladders to help one through the steep parts.
