Copperas pond on an Autumn Day

There are two trails to Copperas Pond, one goes straight up to the pond off of Route 86 in the Wilmington Notch and then there is a gentler grade off to the West, that first takes you past some beaver ponds and large Owen Pond, that you can see below.

On the right, I can never walk past tree roots hugging a rock and not take a picture of it.

At Copperas Pond you get a nice view of Whiteface off to the northeast.  There's a lean to on the pond.  There is a trail that goes around the pond, I followed another trail off to Winch Pond where I had lunch, below.

Winch Pond is a real frog pond, lots of stagnant water and logs in the pond, but interesting reflections also.

The following four photos are all taken on Route 86.  After Winch Pond I took the steep descent on the eastern part of the trail back to Route 86 about a mile from where I parked the car.  But it made for an interesting and pretty walk where I took these photos.

Elephants Head - just behind that up on top is Copperas Pond

Across the street are the cliffs that lead up to Whiteface Mt.
