Sue and Terrance have been busy with their percussion group Mountain Drum.  Over the winter they recorded a new cd entitled, "Adirondack Flam".

Sue has been busy making the new Adirondack Life Mugs and working on Felting and Beading as well.  Although she feels that it's time to explore new shapes in clay as well.

Terrance has been working on new work that combine pit fired pottery and book arts.

Terrance has been practicing and making Coptic bound books

The Coptic bound  book is a unique non-adhesive hand-stitched binding method introduced in the 4th century A.D. in ancient Egypt by the Copts. Various forms of this stitching technique have remained popular for over 1500 years.

The spine of the book is usually left exposed when a Coptic stitching technique is used.  This allows the book to open a full 360 degrees without damaging the book.

The greatest advantage to Coptic stitching is the ability of the book to open and lay completely flat with no stress on the spine and no damage to the book.

Coptic stitching uses separate threads in pairs or groups. Generally waxed linen thread is used for ease of handling. Pages are grouped together into signatures which is common to most methods of book making.

The Coptic binding shown above is the book that is included in Terrance's "Tower of Inspiration", a pit fired clay piece with two compartments for hand bound books.

The Tower of Inspiration will give the owner a place to write all the phrases of inspiration that they have as well as invite guests to their home to write theirs.  Then when the owner is in need, they will go to the "Tower of Inspiration" and perhaps read the Coptic journal containing inspirational phrases or they will lift the binding that contains two phrases from inside the tower and hopefully will be inspired.

Terrance also has been pit firing some bowls.  A wonderful look into the pit firing process can be seen in this issue of Eating Art E-Magazine.

Sue and Terrance will be showing their 3 dimensional work along with Bookers Paintings at the Plattsburgh Cultural Center show beginning on April 3rd and running for a month.
