We began this hike by walking up the road from the Au Sable Club.  At about 2 .5 miles there's a trail across the river to Beaver Meadows Falls, where Corrine, Steve, Joan and I took a break.

We then followed the west trail along the Au Sable River, the trail weaved in and out of the forest and was pencil thin going through hip high brush.  When the trail reaches the lower lake we followed the link to Rainbow Falls and entered a canyon that seems to go back in time.

I knew what to expect having been there before and I wanted to catch Corrine's first impression of the falls, so I swirled around with my camera at the ready
